Qatar Chamber hold career day for recruit people with disabilities

Qatar Chamber, in co-operation with the Voluntary Committee for Employing the Disabled held the ‘Career Day for Recruiting People with Disabilities’.

The event, was attended by Qatar Chamber chairman Sheikh Khalifa bin Jassim al-Thani, director general Saleh bin Hamad al-Sharqi, and the committee president Khalid al-Shuaibi, is an initiative aimed at recruiting people with special needs in appropriate jobs and merging them in the local labour market, Qatar Chamber said in a statement.
The meeting was also attended by officials and representatives of 16 Qatari companies and a number of people with special needs seeking employment.

Addressing the meeting, al-Sharqi said Career Day aims to provide an opportunity for people with disabilities to find jobs befitting their abilities and absorb their skills.

He lauded the role played by the Voluntary Committee for Employing the Disabled “in helping this important category of the society.”

Al-Sharqi underscored the committee role in finding many jobs for members in the private sector institutions and companies.

He also thanked businessmen and companies that responded to the chamber’s initiative.
He stressed on the chamber’s interest to support all efforts made to merge people with special needs in the labour market, describing it as a “positive energy that should be benefited from.”

Al-Sharqi also affirmed the interest and support of the wise leadership and government for this segment in society, noting that the chamber would organise a number of events and forums to urge the private sector to hire people with disabilities.

Al-Shuaibi expressed his gratitude and appreciation to Qatar Chamber for its support and initiative to help recruit people with disabilities.

This support stems from Sheikh Khalifa’s interest to help this segment of society.


Qatar, Serbia Chambers sign MoU to establish joint Business Council

Qatar Chamber (QC) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Serbia Chamber of Commerce and Industry to establish a joint Business Council in an effort to increase cooperation between the Qatari and Serbian private sectors as well as increase the exchange visits between businessmen of both sides.

The MoU was signed during a meeting held at Qatar Chamber’s headquarters in the presence of a number of Qatari businessmen and their counterparts from Serbia. Representatives of 14 Serbian companies seeking trade alliances in Qatar were also present during the event.

The MoU was signed by Qatar Chamber’s First Vice-Chairman Mohamed bin Ahmed bin Towar Al Kuwari and Jelena Jovanovic, the head of the Serbian delegation and Director of the International Economic Relations Sector at the Chamber of Commerce & Industry of Serbia.

The meeting was also attended by Qatar’s Ambassador to Serbia Sheikh Mubarak bin Fahad Al Thani, Serbia’s Ambassador to Qatar Jasminko Pozderac, and QC’s Board Member Mohamed bin Ahmed Al Obaidli.

In a speech, Al Kuwari, said that Qatar and Serbia enjoy good and developing relations due to the interest and desire of both countries’ leaderships to develop these relations.

He also said that trade between both countries reached QR 26mn last year, which is fairly positive despite both countries facing blockade issues.

Al Kuwari also called on Qatari and Serbian companies to explore business and investment opportunities available in both sides and build genuine partnerships for the advantage of enhancing trade exchange.

He also called on Serbian companies to invest in Qatar and benefit from incentives offered by the government and the attractive investment climate as well as legislative environment that attract foreign investment.

Meanwhile, Jovanovic praised the relations between both countries, and added that the signing of the MOU to establish a joint business council would help in promoting cooperation between Qatari and Serbian firms in various industrial sectors.

She also said: “This MOU will pave the way for successful collaboration between both countries and achieve mutually beneficial business goals in near future”.

During the event, Jovanovic also delivered a presentation about Serbia including its economy, investment climate and opportunities, and reiterated that the main sectors in Serbia are services, industry, agriculture and construction.

QC Highlights Efforts for Employment of People with Disabilities

Qatar Chamber (QC) has reviewed its efforts to encourage private sector companies to provide an opportunity for people with disabilities to find jobs befitting their abilities and absorb their skills.

HE Member of the Board of Directors of International Relations at the Qatar International Center for Reconciliation and Arbitration Dr. Sheikh Thani Bin Ali Al-Thani addressed the initiatives launched by QC to encourage private sector companies to recruit and integrate this important group into the Qatari labor market.

In a meeting, organized by the Qatari Center of Social Cultural for the Deaf, on the occasion of the 44th Arab Deaf Week under the slogan “under the slogan Urging the government entities and their affiliated institutions to employ the deaf”, H.E added that QC hosted last week the activities of the Career Day for Persons with Disabilities with the participation of 16 companies. During which he interviewed several people with special needs in preparation for their employment, as well as other initiatives launched by QC to encourage companies to employ people with disabilities and to benefit from their skills.

He pointed out that the State of Qatar adopted a set of laws to remove the social and functional obstacles that face people with disabilities, and their functional rights were considered part of a protection system provided by the international laws and conventions to consecrate and protect this important segment of society.

His Excellency Sheikh Thani Bin Ali Al-Thani addressed Law No. 2 of 2004 on Persons with Special Needs, which approved the right of this group to education, rehabilitation, medical and psychological care, relief services, aid, access to tools and devices and means of transportation. Article 5 of the Law also approved the employment of persons with special needs who hold diplomas at a rate of not less than 2 percent of the total grades of posts in the competent authorities.

He pointed out that the recruitment of People with disabilities is in accordance with their abilities and qualifications, each employer in the private sector employing 25 or more workers shall be obliged to allocate the percentage provided for in paragraph 1 to persons with special needs for their appointment and at least one worker.

HE Chairman of Qatar Chamber Sheikh Khalifa bin Jassim bin Mohammed Al-Thani, said that the growth and economic expansion witnessed by the State of Qatar since the past two decades, necessitated the use of large numbers of employment, Sheikh Khalifa pointed out that Qatar Chamber is keen to encourage employers and private sector companies to provide the necessary training and qualification for workers, raise awareness and culture and abide by the occupational safety and health requirements of the worker and the employer, in order to achieve the increase and productive efficiency, and reduce the burden of accidents and occupational diseases, and benefit the public interest.

This came during his speech at the opening of the Occupational Safety and Health Conference, organised by the Minister of Administrative Development, Labour and Social Affairsin in co-operation with the Ministry of Public Health and the International Labour Organisation to celebrate the occupational safety and health month.

He also pointed out that the Qatar Chamber has cooperated with the official authorities in the State to develop legislation and laws that have contributed to improving the standards of living and safety of workers and encouraged the private sector to raise the level of occupational safety and health requirements, ensuring the improvement of living and working conditions, and applying the highest standards in relation to workers’ rights.

Sheikh Khalifa bin Jassim bin Mohammed Al Thani praised the efforts exerted by those who work on all the establishments operating in the State, their keenness to adhere to the rights of workers in the various State projects and to ensure a decent standard of living for them at all times, wishing them to continue to carry out their responsibilities to promote the advancement of occupational safety and health, and to maintain the safety and health of the worker as an essential part of the true wealth of the nation.

12 Argentinian companies look for business avenues in Qatar market

A delegation from Argentine comprising of representatives from 12 companies specialised in foodstuffs, agriculture, livestock, fodder, hospitality and other sectors visited Qatar Chamber, the delegation was headed by Under Secretary of Agro-industrial Markets in the Ministry of Production and Labour of the Argentine Republic HE Pedro Vigneau.

The meeting was attended by Ambassador of Argentine to Qatar HE Carlos Hernandez as well as a number of Qatari businessmen and representatives of local companies specialized in these sectors.

Addressing the meeting, Qatar Chambers First Vice Chairman, Mohammad bin Ahmad bin Twar al Kuwari said that Qatar and Argentine  enjoy good economic and commercial relations, noting that their bilateral trade volume reached $335 mn last year.

He underscored the importance of HH the Amir’s visit to Latin America last year including Argentine  which stressed HH’s interest to expand Qatar’s economic and political relations and its strategic partnerships with Argentine .

war said that this visit has contributed to strengthening cooperation relations of both countries and ended with signing of a number of economic, sports, social and cultural agreements. He invited Qatari investors to explore business and investment opportunities available in Argentine which is an important partner in the Latin continent which is close to Arab world and a good supporter for its issues.

He stressed Qatar Chamber’s interest to build more cooperation relations between Qatari companies and their counterparts from Argentine , especially in light of the attractive investment climate and business opportunities available in Qatar.

Ambassador of Argentine  to Qatar HE Carlos Hernandez said that Amir’s visit has helped in establishing distinct relations, noting that Qatari investments in Argentine  are important and there is interest to develop and grow these investments. HE Pedro Vigneau said that there is a strong desire toward enhancing commercial relations with the Qatari side.

He delivered a presentation about Argentinean exports and sectors in which private sectors in both countries can cooperate. Vigneau said that Argentine attached a special interest to exports and productivity as well as streamlining customs procedures, improving the market and simplifying fund transfer. He noted that 60% of exports are from agricultural products, pointing out that his country produced 45 mntons of grain.

Qatar Chamber has presented the investment opportunities available in the country’s business sectors before the ‘International Businesses Delegation’ (IBD), which comprises company representatives from India, Bangladesh, Mozambique, the Philippines, Nepal, Canada, Malaysia, and Singapore, in a meeting held in Doha on Sunday.

The meeting, which was organised by Qatar Chamber, in co-operation with the IBD Summit in Doha, Address Gateway Company, and ICC Qatar, discussed Qatar’s achievements in economy and the business environment.
This success was driven by a number of sound policies established by the country’s wise leadership to open the economy and attract investments for industries and sectors that will cement Qatar’s position as a leading regional trade and investment hub, said Qatar Chamber first vice-chairman Mohamed bin Twar al-Kuwari.

Al-Kuwari also noted that this success was also supported by legislative reforms and laws that streamlined doing business in the country and attracted more investments in major sectors.

He called on companies participating in the summit to explore investment opportunities available in Qatar and to join hands with Qatari companies in development projects being undertaken within the framework of the Qatar National Vision 2030 and in preparations for the hosting of the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

IBD Summit president Yousuf al-Jaber said the event is an initiative that aims to make it easier for business owners in Qatar to open new avenues and opportunities for foreign investors. He noted that the IBD has collaborated with agencies like Qatar Chamber and the Qatar National Tourism Council.

Benjir Ahmed, a member of the Bangladesh Parliament and president of the Bangladesh Association of International Recruiting Agencies, said the IBD Summit provides a valuable opportunity for its members to discuss all business-related issues and affirms that it would play a crucial role in the development of world businesses.

He added that Qatar and Bangladesh can co-operate in private economic zones and in the hospitality, renewable energy, and LNG sectors.

Qatar Chamber’s First Vice-Chairman Mohamed bin Ahmed bin Towar Al Kuwari stressed Qatar’s commitment to supporting joint Asian work, as well as its full commitment to expanding cooperation with Asian countries in all fields.

Speaking at the opening of the ACD Business Forum, Al Kuwari said that Qatar Chamber is working hard to strengthen its relations with its counterparts in the Asian Dialogue countries, with the aim of creating the appropriate environment and climate conducive to strengthening the relations of cooperation between business sectors in Qatar and their counterparts in these countries. He added that the Chamber encourages Qatari businessmen to invest in these countries and to establish trade and investment partnerships that increase trade exchange between Qatar and the ACD countries, in the hope of realizing the desired regional economic integration.

He also said that the chamber was committed to supporting small and medium-sized project, especially since they are a strong catalyst for economic growth. He also pointed out that the Chamber has been very supportive of young entrepreneurs and their efforts in launching their startups, especially with the necessary funding, either through Qatar Development Bank, which is a pioneer in this field, or through local commercial banks.

Al Kuwari said that the Business Forum of the ACD was an important platform for business sectors in Asian countries that want to enhance their partnership, increase opportunities for cooperation and establish business alliances that can enhance economic ties among Asian countries. He also said that the forum allows for the exchange of ideas and experiences of the participants.

QC urges private sector to respond to humanitarian initiatives

Qatar Chamber hosted a seminar titled “Qatar Business Event on Engaging with the UN Humanitarian Response’’ which was held in cooperation with the UN Secretary-General’s Humanitarian Envoy Office and Qatar Financial Centre.

The event targeted at business leaders and aimed to build on existing good practices and matching private sector experiences with the UN’s expertise in delivering humanitarian assistance. It reviewed  on-going partnerships showcasing methods of private sector engagement on humanitarian action in addition to prospect partners willing to engage in becoming a part of the global humanitarian response.

QC Board Member Mrs. Ibtihaj Al Ahmadani, the Secretary-General’s Humanitarian Envoy H.E Dr. Ahmed Al-Meraikhi and CEO of Qatar Financial Centre Yousuf Mohamed Al-Jaida attended the event.

Addressing the meeting, Al Ahmadani  said that Qatar National Vision 2030 keeps abreast with the UN vision in the humanitarian field, noting that this has been manifested through its commitment to its responsibilities and the efforts made to strengthen its regional and international partnerships as well as its adoption to many developmental and humanitarian initiatives and assistance it has always provided to countries facing economic and humanitarian crises and natural disasters.

She also said that Qatar’s leading humanitarian role across the world has proved that human values ​​are an important pillar in international relations and rapprochement between peoples.

She stressed that Qatar has made the humanitarian work a lifestyle, noting that it has tapped all efforts to serve humanity so that it became a role model in charity and humanitarian work in the world.

Al Ahmadani underscored the role played by the private sector in any developed economy on the human side through its social responsibility, which must be based on the principle of social partnership, which in many societies is required for mutual benefit or moral commitment.

The Qatari private sector, as a partner and a major contributor to the sustainable development process of Qatar, has played a major role in terms of social responsibility, she added.

She also praised the efforts made by all concerned authorities in the country, led by the Wise Leadership in laying down the rules and foundations for how the business sector and companies can contribute to the renaissance of Qatari society through the implementation of many social projects that aim at achieving the goals of sustainable development plans and the goals and objectives of the Qatar National Vision 2030.

She also emphasized the Chamber’s role in encouraging the Qatari business community to fulfill its responsibilities towards the community in which it operates and benefits.

UNSG’s Humanitarian Envoy Dr. Ahmed Al Meraikhi said that humanitarian needs would remain extremely high during the current year, noting that nearly 132 million people in 42 countries around the world would need humanitarian assistance.

Al Meraikhi stressed the importance to identify the root causes creating these humanitarian needs in order to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals.

He affirmed that all actors of the humanitarian and development fields must cooperate with one another to find dynamic responses. This must include governments, NGOs, financial institutions and the private sector.

He said that H.H. Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al Thani announced at the UN General Assembly the strong commitment Qatar shows towards the UN, pointing out that Qatar signed agreements totalling $500m over the next 5 years for UN agencies.

“Qatar’s humanitarian leaders have announced their strong desire to work with the United Nations and it has reached every organisation in the country including Qatar Fund for Development , Education Above All, Qatar Charity and Qatar Red Crescent”, he noted.

Only a few weeks ago we saw the signing of the largest single donation of $35million from Sheikh Thani Bin Abdullah Bin Thani Al-Thani for Rohingya refugees in Bangladesh and displaced Yemenis.

On his part, QFC’s CEO Yousuf Mohamed Al-Jaida that humanitarian crises have never been more extensive, affecting more and more people for longer durations, noting that about 70 million people are currently displaced due to conflict, natural disasters and global warming; over 100 million are experiencing food insecurity and over 800 million are suffering from undernutrition. There are also millions of children that have absolutely no access to education.

Al-Jaida also said that public and private institutions worldwide are taking immediate and effective action to address these issues through a cooperative, collaborative and comprehensive approach.

He stressed that critical local and global initiatives such as this led by Dr Ahmed Al-Meraikhi would play a vitally important role in supporting global humanitarian action and rallying the private sector in taking an active role in helping achieve the UN’s Sustainability Development Goals.

He explained the role played by QFC in humanitarian field and efforts made in this regard.

QFC, Ministry of Administrative Development, Labour and Social Affairs (ADLSA), and the International Labour Organization signed an agreement as part of a joint commitment towards long-term education and professional development, he said.

On a global level, QFC has raised funds to help educate children in impoverished communities and in conflict areas, by collaborating with humanitarian agencies such as Education Above All, Al-Jaida noted.

Swiss investors praise Qatar’s business climate

Trade volume between Qatar and Switzerland has increased by 28 percent to $3.7bn in 2018 from $2.9bn in 2017, Qatar Chamber’s (QC) First Vice-Chairman Mohamed bin Ahmed bin Towar Al Kuwari has said at a meeting with a Swiss trade team which was headed by Maya Maria Marberger.

The meeting reviewed ways of enhancing trade relations and partnership between businessmen of both countries in furniture, jewellery, IT, financial and banking services and automobiles.

Addressing the meeting, Al Kuwari also said: “The State of Qatar and Switzerland have enjoyed good bilateral relations for more than 40 years. Their economic and trade ties have seen remarkable development within the past few years. Their combined value of trade exchange hit $3.7bn last year, registering an increase of 28 percent compared to 2017 which reached $2.9bn. Swiss exports to Qatar included premium watches and jewellery”

He also said that there are many Qatari investments in Switzerland and there are about 9 Swiss companies and 51 Qatar-Swiss companies operating in the Qatari market, noting that Switzerland is a prime tourist destination for Qataris and expatriates.

He called on Qatari and Swiss companies to engage in effective partnerships for the interest of the two economies.

He also called on the Qatari private sector to explore business and investment opportunities available in Switzerland, which is one of the fastest-growing economies in the world.

On her part, Marberger said that the visit aims to explore the Qatari market and review business opportunities available between Qatari and Swiss companies. She also called on Qatari businessmen and companies to visit her country to explore the investment climate and opportunities in numerous sectors, especially that Qatar has many investments in Switzerland.

Marberger added that there is a large Swiss business delegation that will visit Qatar in October to meet with their counterparts and identify cooperation opportunities.

During the meeting, members of the delegation said that the ongoing siege has contributed to attracting more investments to Qatar in light of the efforts made by the Qatari government in dealing with the crisis.

They Swiss delegates said that Qatar has managed to overcome the siege and has continued its economic growth efficiently, noting that Qatar is a great opportunity for all world investors and professionals due to its leading role in the region.

Qatar Chamber organises 170 economic events in 2018

The Qatar Chamber’s annual general meeting has approved the report of the Board of Directors and  the audit report of 2018 as well as ratified the budget of 2019 and appointed a new auditor for 2019.

The meeting was held in the presence of all board members and a number of businessmen and members at the Chamber’s headquarter.

Qatar Chamber chairman Sheikh Khalifa bin Jassim al-Thani said the chamber organised more than 170 events, including conferences, symposiums and meetings in 2018. The chamber also hosted some 100 international business delegations, organised seven visits for Qatari businessmen to various countries and issued 1,453 certificates of origin online and more than 35,000 certificates of origin the traditional way.

While chairing the meeting, Sheikh Khalifa said 2018 was an exceptional year in which the chamber and the private sector achieved successes at all levels and Qatar was able to overcome the blockade and continue to grow economically.

Qatar became the world’s largest liquefied natural gas (LNG) producer last year along with many other achievements at various levels and fields.

Sheikh Khalifa said the achievements of the chamber came as part of its pioneering role in serving, representing and protecting the private sector. The chamber is currently working on adding new electronic services on its website to facilitate the clearance of transactions for members and save time and effort spent in those procedures.

The chamber strengthened its efforts in training and developing human resources, established its cooperation with a number of local training centres and organised 12 training programmes in 2018, in addition to a number of arbitration courses organised by the Qatar International Centre for Conciliation and Arbitration.

The Qatar Chamber chairman expressed hope that 2019 will witness further achievements and effective participation from all members of the private sector in the country. He also reiterated the chamber’s preparedness to receive any proposals or views that would enhance its efforts and support the private sector and the economy of Qatar.

Qatar Chamber extends support to Merwad exhibition

Qatar Chamber’s Board Member Ebtihaj al Ahmadani inaugurated the Merwad exhibition at the Qatar National Convention Center.

The expo, which displays products of a number of designers from Qatar and the GCC, includes 83 stalls of clothes, accessories, perfumes and women’s items for the Holy Month of Ramadan.

Manager of Vouge Event Company, the expo’s organiser Tamader al Marri and more than 70 Qatari designers from the GCC region attended the inauguration ceremony.

The five-day exhibition sponsored by Qatar Chamber offers an opportunity to learn about designs of Qatari businesswomen.

On the sidelines of the expo, Qatar Chamber and Vouge Event signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU), which will see the chamber offering permanent support for the exhibition.

QC Board Member Ebtihaj al Ahmadani and the company’s manager Tamader al Marri signed the agreement.
Commenting on the signing, Ahmadani said the MoU is in line with the chamber’s support to exhibitions, businesswomen and SMEs.

She said at a press conference that Merwad expo is one of the distinguished expos, noting that the large participation of Qatari designers reflects the expo’s importance.

She underscored the chamber’s interest to support the expo, saying the chamber would expand the participation of businesswomen in the coming editions and would cooperate with Vouge Event to organise it outside Qatar.

On her part, Tamader al Marri thanked the chamber for supporting businesswomen and many exhibitions held in the country, saying, “We are lucky to sign the agreement with QC which will support the expo regularly.”


Qatar Chamber panel reviews obstacles to investments in private sector education

The Education Committee of the Qatar Chamber (QC) examined the obstacles for investment in private sector education, along with other topics related to the Ministry of Administrative Development, Labour and Social Affairs (MADLSA).

The meeting, held at QC’s headquarters, was presided over by QC’s First Vice-Chairman Mohamed bin Twar, in the presence of Director of Inspection at MADLSA Fahd Zaher al Dosari.

Dosari reiterated his ministry’s keenness to remove all obstacles faced by private schools, including labour-related issues, affirming its preparedness to assist QC’s Education Committee in fulfilling its mission to serve private sector in the country.
The committee examined a circular issued by the Ministry of Education and Higher Education barring schools from employing teachers above the age of 50. The age of school managers should not exceed 55, according to the circular.
The members of the committee said the ministry wanted the circular to be implemented immediately. They said the issue should be handled by the MADLSA, instead of the Ministry of Education.

The meeting also discussed work permit procedures, the relation between employees and school owners, the mechanism for approving employment contracts and the mechanisms to make complaints, among other topics.
The committee also reviewed the possibility of re-evaluating procedures of the Dispute Settlement Committee for the benefit of all parties. The members proposed that visas should be issued to teachers by their names, and not by nationality and number.

Dosari assured that he would convey the concerns raised by the committee to the directorates of MADLSA for finding solutions, adding that the ministry is keen to streamline all issues pertaining to private schools.

The Qatar Chamber hosted a meeting with a delegation from the Turkish Ministry of Family, Labor and Social Services headed by Ali Ibi, Deputy Director of the Department of Foreign Relations.

The meeting discussed the cooperation between the two sides and the use of Turkish labour in private sector companies in Qatar.

Ali Bu Sherbak Al Mansouri, QC’s Assistant Director General for Governmental and International Relations said that Qatar and Turkey have excellent cooperation relations in all fields, noting that the Chamber will encourage Qatari companies and business owners to employ qualified and trained Turkish manpower.

For his part, Ibi said that there are currently about 9,000 Turkish citizens working in Qatar, and he hopes to increase the number in the coming period, calling on the private sector of Qatar to recruit more Turks in the Qatari labor market.

He pointed out that the aim of the visit is to follow up the mechanisms of developing cooperation with the Qatari side with regard to Turkish employment and activating the agreements signed in this regard.

QC Legal Affairs Department Director, Abdulaziz Al Kuwari also said it was important to have an agency or a contact point between the two sides to identify the sectors in which Turkish workers could work.

QC & Roscongress Foundation sign MoU to boost cooperation

The Qatar Chamber (QC) signed a cooperation agreement with Roscongress Foundation, a socially oriented non-financial development institution and a major organizer of international events, to boost cooperation. The MoU was inked on the sidelines of the St Petersburg International Economic Forum 2019 (SPIEF) which was held in St Petersburg, Russia from June 6 to 8.

This agreement enables Qatar to be an official partner at the next edition of SPIEF that will be held in June 2020.

This year’s SPIEF event was held under the theme “Establishing the Agenda for Sustainable Development”.

The agreement was signed by QC Board Member Ali Abdul Latif al Misnad and Roscongress Foundation CEO Alexander Stuglev.

It aims to outline plans for the organizations to work together on building effective links between the expert and business communities of the two countries.

On the occasion, Al Misnad said that the participation of QC in the event highlights its keenness to strengthen cooperation relations between the Qatari private sector and its Russian counterpart as well as promote Qatar economy and investment climate and projects of the private sector.

It also aims to identify business opportunities available in the Russian market and review possibility of establishing joint alliances between Qatari and Russian businessmen in both countries.

He noted that the forum represented a brilliant opportunity for holding meetings with businessmen from many countries, affirming that the forum is an international platform that brings together decision makers, economic experts and heads of major foreign companies and representatives of business communities from all over the world.

Al Misnad pointed out that the signed agreement sets out initiatives in a number of areas. These include organizing bilateral and multilateral events in the energy, economic, and social sectors, particularly forums, conferences, roundtables, business meetings, expos, and presentations.

He said that the next edition of the forum will see a significant Qatari participation from business sectors.

He underscored the strong relation between Qatar and Russia in all economic and commercial fields, noting that their trade volume reached last year QR 1.1bn, registering a 240 percent growth compared to QR308m in 2017.

Qatar is represented at the forum by the Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Qatar Chamber, Qatar Russian Business Council, Qatar Development Bank, Qatar Financial Center, Qatar Investment Authority, Qatar Airways, National Tourism Council, Higher Committee for Projects and Heritage, Gulf Organisation for Research and Development, Science and Technology Park, Qatar University, Center for Sustainable Development – Faculty of Arts and Sciences and Hamad Bin Khalifa University.

Sarkissian calls on Qatari businessmen to invest in Armenia

President of the Republic of Armenia, Armen Sarkissian has called on Qatari businessmen to explore the excellent investment opportunities available in Armenia.

Attending the opening session of three-day ‘Summit of Minds’ held in Dilijan, Armenia, the Armenian President praised the strong relations between Qatar and his country, stressing his desire to strengthen these relations in all fields especially in trade and economy.

Qatar Chamber’s Board Member Mohamed bin Ahmed Al Obaidli participated in the event held from June 7 to 9.  Armen Sarkissian attended the event alongside with 100 dignitaries and representatives from 27 countries.

The summit focussed regional geopolitics in Eurasia and the Middle East, advanced technologies, management, artificial intelligence, digital economy, the industrial revolution, entrepreneurship, innovation and leadership in the 21st century, dialogue of civilizations, currency policies, investment, risks and challenges facing the world.

On the sidelines of the summit, the Arminian president met with Al Obaidli. The meeting discussed ways of enhancing cooperation relations between the Qatari private sector and business sectors in Armenia.  

In a press statement, Al Obaidli said that the meeting with the Armenian president reviewed ways of promoting relations between business sectors of both countries, noting that a Qatari businessmen delegation would visit Armenia next year to participate in this annual summit and explore investment opportunities available in all fields.

He pointed out that investment climate in Armenia is attractive and includes a lot of incentives, affirming that the Armenian president is very interested to attract more investment to his country.

We discussed aspects of cooperation between the Qatari private sector and its Armenian counterparts in many sectors especially in food security, he added.
